Sarah Fisher, who recently stepped away from the Verizon IndyCar Series as a team owner, will join the series as a pace car driver.
With Johnny Rutherford returning for a scaled back schedule in 2016, Fisher will pace 14 of the 16 Verizon IndyCar Series races this season. Rutherford will pace the Grand Prix of Phoenix and Indianapolis 500.
"Having worked with J.R. when I was a rookie (driver), and to follow in his footprints now is just an incredible honor," Fisher said. "I've lived for the sport of Indy car racing and when Jay (Frye, INDYCAR president of competition and operations) offered me the position to pace the field, I didn't think twice about my commitment again to the sport that I love."
The honorary Indianapolis 500 pace car driver will be announced at a later date.
