INDYCAR Unveils 2015 Schedule

INDYCAR, the sanctioning body for the Verizon IndyCar Series, announced Thursday the complete 17-race schedule.

The season kicks off the second Sunday in March on the 3.4-mile Autódromo Internacional Nelson Piquet road course in Brasília, Brazil, before running their first U.S. race March 29 in St. Petersburg.
Of Note:

-The 17-race schedule consists of 16 race weekends. Belle Isle returns as the only double header weekend.
-ABC will air 5 races plus Indianapolis 500 Qualifications.
-NBCSN will host the remaining 12 races in addition to Indianapolis 500 Carb Day.
-IndyCar's inaugural even at NOLA Motorsports Park, promoted by Michael Andretti, will take place April 12.
-The second annual Grand Prix of Indianapolis returns May 9.
-Due to hosting the Pan American Games, the Toronto race weekend has moved to June 14.
-Hosting the season finale since 2012, Auto Club Speedway's 2-mile oval has moved to mid-season June 27.
-In addition to Fontana, the oval events in Milwaukee and Pocono also had date changes. To July 12 and August 23, respectively.

For the first time since Champ Car's 2007 finale, the season championship will culminate on a non-oval at Sonoma Raceway August 29.

"Sonoma has always been a great circuit for the Verizon IndyCar Series," said Verizon IndyCar Series Champion, Scott Dixon."People always ask what my favorite track is and I often say 'the last one I won at' so it's perfect for me and Team Target. It's a very technical and challenging track and the site of the biggest Target weekend each season from a partnership perspective."
