Rossi Wins at Indianapolis

Having not even seen the Indianapolis Motor Speedway until this past Easter, Andretti Autosport rookie Alexander Rossi has won the 100th Running of the Indy 500.

Leading 9 laps from lap 129 to 138, Rossi lost the lead to Helio Castroneves but would recover when it mattered. On lap 197 after team owner Bryan Herta made the right pit strategy, Rossi took the lead for good and became the 10th rookie to win at Indianapolis.

Michael Andretti broke his tie with Pat Patrick, Bob Wilke and Mike Boyle with his 4th win. Andretti is only behind Penske, Ganassi and Lou Moore.

Honda broke their tie with Cosworth with their 11th Indianapolis 500 win. They now trail just Offy with 27 and Miller with 12.

Alexander Rossi became just the 10th Rookie to win the race. Rossi joins Harroun '11, Jules Goux '13, René Thomas '14, Frank Lockhart '26, George Souders '27, Louis Meyer '28, Graham Hill '66, Juan Pablo Montoya '00 and Helio Castroneves '01.

Helio Castroneves is now 5th on the all-time mileage list for the Indianapolis 500. After passing Arie Luyendyk and Mario Andretti he sits behind just A.J. Foyt, Al Unser, Al Unser Jr. and Gordon Johncock.
