Penske Racing's Will Power won today's Angie's List Grand Prix of Indianapolis in dominating fashion. The reigning series champion led 65 of the 82 laps on his way to the first win of his young season.
Race day for Verizon IndyCar Series drivers began with a 30-minute warm up at 11:30, 25 drivers turned 440 laps. KV Racing's Stefano Coletti led the field with a quick time of 1:10:5942. Chevy's rounded out 10 of the quickest 11 laps, with Graham Rahal the lone Honda breaking into the top of the charts in 6th.
The Firestone tire designations were distributed shortly following practice with the top 10 starters all choosing Alternates. Positions 18-25 all went the Primary rubber route while starters 11-17 were a mix. Contrary to popular belief, the race stayed dry throughout, keeping the rain tires on the sidelines.
The race went green for nearly the entire event with just 1 caution on laps 1 and 2 due to the opening lap contact of Dixon, Newgarden and Hawksworth. The penalty-free race had 11 lead changes from 6 drivers (Power 65, Rahal 9, Hinchcliffe 4, Jakes 2, Kimball 1 and Dixon 1).
