Busch & Villeneuve Pass Their Refresher Programs

The first day of Indianapolis 500 preparations has come to an end with Rookie Kurt Busch and '500' winner Jacques Villeneuve completing their Refresher Programs. The Refresher Program consists of Stage 2 and Stage 3 of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Rookie Orientation Program. Busch completed ROP last May.

Villeneuve, who's returning to the famed 2.5 mile oval for the first time since 1995, completed 83 laps with a best speed of 217.742 mph.

Busch turned 66 total laps on the day with a top speed of 220.844 mph.

The incident free day got off to a late start due to track drying and was brought to an early end, about 45-minutes shy of the scheduled 5pm checkered flag, due to precipitation. James Hinchcliffe, Marco Andretti, Ryan Hunter-Reay, Juan Pablo Montoya, Ed Carpenter, Oriol Servia and Conor Daly all made appearances on pit lane.

The Indianapolis Motor Speedway will remain busy Wednesday when 25 cars take to the newly updated IMS road course for an Open Test in preparations for the Grand Prix of Indianapolis. The IMS oval will host it's next laps May 5th when Mikhail Aleshin, Martin Plowman and Jack Hawksworth run their Rookie Orientation Program and Kurt Busch returns to practice. Although not scheduled, it's likely Sage Karam, who was announced this morning to a "500" ride with Dreyer and Reinbold/Kingdom Racing, will run his ROP as well.
