2011 Firestone Indy Lights champion Josef Newgarden has signed on to run with Sarah Fisher in the 2012 IZOD IndyCar Series season for the newly rebranded Sarah Fisher Hartman Racing, piloting the #67.
"First of all, I'd like to thank Andy, Sarah, and Wink for providing me with this opportunity," said Newgarden. "It's a perfect fit. SFHR and myself have a lot of the same qualities, and I'm really looking forward to working with everyone throughout the year. I'm sure we're going to have great chemistry, and I'm excited to get 2012 rolling."
In addition to the announcement of Newgarden, the team has also formed a partnership with Wink Hartman who has sponsored SFR for several years.
"Wink brought the idea of Josef to our attention and after watching him mid season forward, we knew he would be a perfect fit," said Fisher. "Josef has a great brand and is a true champion. We very much look forward to working with him both on and off track.
The Nashville, Tennessee native won 5 of the 14 Firestone Indy Lights events in 2011 along with 3 poles, 10 top 5's, and 13 top 10's.
"I'm excited about the great news for SFHR today," said Hartman. "It shows Sarah's continued growth in selecting Josef to be the driver for the future of the team. We look forward to a great 2012 season with Josef behind the wheel."
Although a schedule has not been secured, the announcement release says that they 'anticipate a full season effort'.
The soon-to-turn 21-year-old on December 22nd, is taking over for Ed Carpenter who left the team following his win at Kentucky to form Ed Carpenter Racing.
