RHR To Utilize The #1, Marco #25

Andretti Autosport announced today that Ryan Hunter-Reay's DHL Dallara will be renumbered, utilizing the #1 in 2013, which is reserved for the previous seasons champion.

The #1 hasn't been used in an INDYCAR sanctioned IZOD IndyCar Series race since the 2006 Indianapolis 500 when Michael Andretti ran the number earned from Dan Wheldon's 2005 championship, but hasn't been on-track on a full-time basis since Scott Dixon, the 2003 IZOD IndyCar Series Champion, used the number in 2004. The 2003, '04, '05, and '06, Champ Car Champions, Paul Tracy and Sebastien Bourdais, continued the tradition using the #1 until the 2008 merger with INDYCAR.

The team also announced that Marco Andretti will switch from the #26 to the #25 in 2013, while James Hinchcliffe will retain the #27.

During which USAC sanctioned the Indianapolis 500, after CART was established, the defending '500' champion had first rights to car #1 over the defending series champion, at Indy only. On several occasions the driver invoked the right including: Sneva (1984), Mears (1985), Sulivan (1986), Unser (1988),  Mears (1989), and Luyendyk (1991).

Daly To Test With Foyt

Conor Daly, son of veteran racer Derek Daly, will test the #14 A.J. Foyt Racing IndyCar at Sebring December 13th.

“Conor Daly is one of the exciting up-and-coming drivers in open wheel racing today,” said Larry Foyt, team director of AJ Foyt Racing. “I had spoken to Conor at the F-1 race in Austin and I was impressed.  I thought this test was a perfect opportunity to see how he works with our team. Depending on how it goes, we may be able to do something with him in the future.”

Daly won the 2010 Star Mazda Championship, ran a partial Firestone Indy Lights Schedule in 2011 winning in Long Beach, and competed in the GP3 Series the past two season.

"I am honored to have the opportunity to drive an Indycar for the first time with AJ Foyt Racing,” Daly said. “I've grown up at the Indy 500 and have always dreamed of getting in an Indycar someday. I will do the best job I can to get to know the team and complete all the things they've got planned for the test. I can't thank Larry enough for organizing this and taking an interest in my future."

Although the soon-to-be 21-year-old (12/15) has his mind set on a Formula 1 career, the American hasn't ruled out running a North American based series in 2013. However with the full-time driver of the #14 close to being announced, Daly is not a likely candidate.
