UPDATE 1: The IZOD Indycar Series has now confirmed the Sao Paolo race
  • "While our primary focus continues to be building the sport of the IZOD IndyCar Series domestically, the race in São Paulo affords us a unique opportunity to visit a country that has a huge passion for open-wheel racing. With strong support from our major partner Aprex-Brasil, a significant television package from TV Bandeirantes, a large number of drivers from the country and the opportunity for a unique course, it makes sense from both a business and competition standpoint," -Terry Angstadt, president of the commercial division for the sanctioning Indy Racing League.
  • "For the Brazilian drivers, it will be great to race in front of all the Brazilian fans and I know we are all looking forward to having a great event. "We just got the Olympics and now we have an IndyCar race so it gives us two very important international events to show off." -Mario Moraes
  • "That's what the series needs and being a Brazilian I'm very happy to go race in my country. Racing in Brazil will bring an incredible new aspect to the IZOD IndyCar Series. There is a long and great history of open-wheel racing in Brazil. We have our share of talent and personalities from Brazil. -Tony Kanaan
  • It's important for us to be racing in Brazil because we have five Brazilian drivers and we have a Brazilian sponsor. IndyCar has a huge fan base in Brazil, and all the Brazilian drivers are proud to be racing in our home country." -Raphael Matos

-----------------------------------------

According to Brazilian news, the IZOD Indycar Series will open the 2010 season in Sao Paulo, with an announcement expected at any time. They say that the specific circuit has not been mapped out, although they are looking at several layouts.

"The arrival of Indycars reaffirms Sao Paulo's vocation to major world events. It's a gift to our people who will be able to get close to big cars and drivers. It is also an important business opportunity for the city, which is establishing itself as capital of motor racing." -Mayor Gilberto Kassab

Why are we putting untold effort and money into finding a "suitable facility" for all of this when one ALREADY EXISTS IN SAO PAULO?! If Interlagos is good enough for Formula One, it's good enough for me. In fact, even if F1 didn't race there, I would still suggest Interlagos.

Pray the airport, or Interlagos!

I'm happy for Sao Paulo. I don't know the city and then I am not able to say what location is better to run, but I don't like so much the airport races (but I think it's right to have at least one of this, and we have already Edmonton). I'm happy also because this summer I met a boy from Sao Paulo...maybe food and accommodation sure possibile? I hope!!!
